چکیده

The article describes some interesting and possibly not previously noticed nonlinear differential identities satisfied by exponential and trigonometric functions. Both formulation and the proofs of these relations do not require mathematics knowledge beyond standard differentiation rules and high school algebra. Surprisingly, the research that produced these identities was devoted to medical imaging (computerized tomography). A brief description of the origin of these identities is provided. Relations with some other topics are also briefly mentioned.

Notes for the Physics-Based Calculus workshop

1 Trigonometric Functions We recall the following identities for trigonometric functions. Theorem 1.1. For all x ∈ R, cos(−x) = cos(x) and sin(−x) = − sin(x). Theorem 1.2. For all α, β ∈ R, cos(α + β) = cos(α) cos(β)− sin(α) sin(β). Theorem 1.3. For all α, β ∈ R, sin(α+ β) = sin(α) cos(β) + cos(α) sin(β). Proof. For small positive angles (so α+ β is less than a right angle), the identities from...

Investigation of dosimetric characteristic of NIPAM polymer gel using x-ray CT

Introduction: Polymer gel dosimeters contain chemical materials sensitive to the radiation which are polymerized by the radiation as a function of absorbed dose. So information of spatial dose distribution can be extracted by imaging from irradiated gel. Among imaging techniques, computed tomography (CT) poses as an attractive method because of practical advantages such as acce...

Left Annihilator of Identities Involving Generalized Derivations in Prime Rings

Let $R$ be a prime ring with its Utumi ring of quotients $U$,  $C=Z(U)$ the extended centroid of $R$, $L$ a non-central Lie ideal of $R$ and $0neq a in R$. If $R$ admits a generalized derivation $F$ such that $a(F(u^2)pm F(u)^{2})=0$ for all $u in L$, then one of the following holds: begin{enumerate} item there exists $b in U$ such that $F(x)=bx$ for all $x in R$, with $ab=0$; item $F(x)=...

The Reconnaissance of Iranian Adolescent’s Perceptions of Radiology Imaging Process

Background Since adolescents do not frequently refer to pediatricians or even general practitioners, hospitals and clinical standard systems are not designed to meet their needs. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify adolescent’s views and feelings of the X-ray imaging process, suggest some age-appropriate facilities to respond t...

Cosine Products, Fourier Transforms, and Random Sums

one gets the first actual formula for 7r that mankind ever discovered, dating from 1593 and due to Frangois Viete (1540-1603), whose Latinized name is Vieta. (Was any notice taken of the formula's 400th anniversary, perhaps by the issue of a postage stamp?) From the samples of a function t(x) at equally spaced points x", n E z, one can reconstruct the complete function with the aid of sin x/x, ...
